Objects and applets
What's related > Accessibility and usability | Best practice for web pages: summary
Interactive components and other 'mini applications' - generically referred to as 'objects' - can be inserted into web pages to provide more functionality and / or a richer experience for users. Although these components can be many and varied, they are typically Java applets or Flash movies.
Use of objects should be avoided in the main, because they reduce a page's accessibility. Please liaise with the Web Services team for more information.
If used, objects should be restricted to enhancing the performance of a page, ie a page should be usable and accessible with or without objects. This is usually achieved by providing an alternative that does not use objects.
