Annual review of academic support staff

Reviews, promotions, discretionary salary increments

Reviews

Historically, the salaries of academic support staff were reviewed on an annual basis. The present system is considerably more flexible. The Human Resources Director has delegated authority from the Academic Support Staff Committee (ASSC) to approve lump sums and increments for all staff up to and including Band 7 on a quarterly basis (end March, end June, end September and end December). The award of lump sums and increments for Bands 8 and 9 are considered by a Panel of the ASSC on an annual basis in late May/early June.

Promotions

The School uses the HERA (Higher Education Role Analysis) system to assess whether a post should be graded at a higher level. If you wish to recommend promotion for a member of your staff, please contact Sarah March (sarah.march@lse.ac.uk) who will make the necessary arrangements for the post to be evaluated.

Discretionary salary increments

If you wish to make recommendations for merit/contribution increments or lump sums for staff at Band 8 or Band 9 level, please use the appropriate form which is available on the Human Resources website. Please send your submissions to the HR Director by mid-May. As noted above a panel of the Academic Staff Support Committee will consider the submissions at its meeting in late May/ early June. Additional increments for staff at grades below Band 8 can be considered as part of the delegated authority system (see above).
