When to apply/deadlines

You must apply early. Applications open on 13 October 2008. Departments will begin to consider these applications from 3 November 2008. The first decisions will be released from January 2009 onwards. There is intense competition for admission. Early applications have a greater chance of being successful and of meeting financial support/scholarship and, where applicable, visa deadlines. Please check the availability of programmes at www.lse.ac.uk/collections/graduateAdmissions/apply before you apply.

Only a limited number of programmes have deadlines by which you should apply – decisions are mostly considered on a rolling basis and programmes close once all places have been filled. Please be aware, however, that many scholarships, especially for research programmes, have early deadlines. Please see programme entries and 'Fees and financial support' for details.

If you applied for the 2008/09 session, we will be able to re-use your application documents as long as you contact the Graduate Admissions Office before 14 November 2008 and submit a new application assessment fee of £35. All old application documents will be destroyed immediately after this date.

All taught master's (MSc/MA/MPA) programmes start in the autumn term (October 2009). Some programmes, particularly those in Economics, Accounting and Finance and Management, require attendance at pre-sessional courses in the summer (July-September) months. Research (MPhil/PhD) programmes may additionally start in the Lent (January) and summer (April) terms at the discretion of your department. Please see www.lse.ac.uk/collections/graduateadmissions/apply/startoptions.htm
