SCONUL Access is the Higher Education scheme providing borrowing privileges and reference access to university libraries across the UK. For further details of the scheme and a full list of member libraries see www.access.sconul.ac.uk. LSE offer membership in bands A and B.
You can apply for borrowing privileges at LSE if you are a:
- member of staff
- research student registered for a PhD, MPhil or equivalent
- part-time student
from a member institution.
LSE does not offer taught postgraduates borrowing privileges under the scheme.

You can apply for reference access at LSE if you are a:
- full-time undergraduate
- full-time postgraduate
from a member institution.
Self registration is provided for all applicants.
- All applications should take 1-2 working days after registering at the Library Reception desk with your University ID card AND SCONUL Access card.
This scheme does not affect existing arrangements for academic staff and research students from other University of London colleges.
All applicants will be expected to produce proof of their current academic status at Library Reception when applying for access, collecting their card, and renewing membership.
