Library services for LSE part time students

Recognising that LSE has a high percentage of part time students, the Library endeavours to support them by accommodating their requirements as much as possible.

  • Some of our part time users live quite a distance away from the Library or may only be able to come in at evenings or weekends. We issue three day loans books for one week so items can be borrowed from weekend to weekend.
  • As part time users may have difficulty bringing items back on time, we offer a reduced fine service on overdue three day loans. Fines incurred on a three day loan (normally 50p a day) are charged at the one week loan rate (30p).
  • Part time students have reservations held for them for one week instead of the standard three days.
  • UK Libraries Plus is a co-operative venture between higher education libraries, making it easier for students and staff to use libraries conveniently near to home or work – at no admission fee. Well over half the UK’s higher education libraries are already participating in the scheme. Any member of LSE can access libraries that are members of the scheme - on a reference only basis. Part time students can also apply for borrowing rights at up to three member libraries.  See UK Libraries Plus web site for details www.uklibrariesplus.ac.uk

Services of special interest to part time students

  • The Library offers extensive opening hours, particularly during term time.
  • We offer a telephone renewal / enquiry service from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
  • If your query cannot be answered by information on the Library website, there is also an email enquiry service. This is provided primarily for LSE staff and students and we respond within two working days.

  • The Library Catalogue can be accessed remotely via the Library website, as well as on campus. Part time students can check availability of items sought; reserve or renew items; and check their Library record to see items borrowed and if any fines are accruing.

  • LSE students now automatically receive any Overdue, Recall and Holds Available notices from the Library via email, instead of in paper form by post.
