Visiting the Reading Room
The Reading Room is open to members of the public as well as people who already have a LSE Library card - for details of how to gain admission see Admission to the Archives Reading Room.
An appointment is not usually necessary, but readers are strongly advised to contact the Archivist before they visit (Document@lse.ac.uk).
All visitors to the Archives Reading Room are asked to sign the register each time that they visit. First-time users are also asked to complete a registration form.
Please note that the Library has different admission procedures for use of its collections. For further information please see: Admission to the Library.
Only pencils and laptop computers may be used in the Reading Room. Mobile phones must always be switched off in the Archives Reading Room. For security reasons, all coats and bags larger than A4 should be placed in the Reading Room cloakroom for the duration of your visit.
A member of Archives staff is always on duty in the reading room; please ask for help if you have any queries or need any advice.
Please note that we operate a limited service at evenings and weekends, and it is advisable to inform us of any material you require in advance if you intend to use the Archives at these times.
Refreshments
Readers are permitted to eat refreshments in the lobby of the Library. The Plaza Cafe opposite the Lionel Robbins Building is very convenient for visitors, and a wide variety of cafes and sandwich bars are situated on Kingsway. ^
