Self-Service and the Library Catalogue

You can use the Library Catalogue to:

  • search for items
  • renew your loans
  • place and check the availability of holds (reservations)

Searching the catalogue

You can search the catalogue in many different ways, for example, by author, title or classmark.

Please try our online tutorial to teach yourself how to use the catalogue and retrieve bibliographic information effectively.

Checking your Library account and renewing your loans

You can  check you Library account and renew your loans online.  Please go to the Library Catalogue - and click on the dark blue box 'My account' . You will then need to enter the barcode number on your Library card (the number directly above the barcode), your Library PIN and you will also be asked to enter your family or surname.  You can then choose to renew your loan (s) by selecting them and pressing enter.

Why your account may be blocked

Your account may be blocked if you have any overdue items, or if you have outstanding fine or charges that amount to £10 or more. Please see Library service counter staff, or call the Library on 020 7955 7229 for further details.

Placing a hold (reservation )request for items that are already on loan

If all copies of an item that you require are out on loan, you may place a hold. Again, you will need your Library barcode number and PIN to do this. Once you have located the item that you wish to reserve on the catalogue, click on the 'Request and Interlending' button on the Library Catalogue and follow the instructions provided. An email will be sent to you when your hold is available. Alternatively, you can check the status of your holds  using the 'My Account' option available on the Library Catalogue.
