Software on the LSE Network

The School's standard computing environment is based upon pentium PCs running Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. There is also a wide range of teaching and research software available on these PCs. The School's standard computing environment is installed in all of the public computer rooms and areas. The most-commonly used software applications are:

  •  Microsoft Word for word processing
  •  Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets
  •  Microsoft Outlook for electronic mail
  •  Internet Explorer for accessing the Internet and World Wide Web
  •  SPSS and SAS for statistics
  •  Microsoft PowerPoint for presentation and graphics
  •  Microsoft Access for database management.

Online databases and datasets

The LSE has access to a number of electronic databases and datasets, including Census data, UK Government social survey datasets and financial information. For information on the availability commercial online and CD-Rom datasets, contact the Information Desk in the Library.
