LSE Urban Research Centre

Welcome to the LSE Urban Research Centre. The URC links together researchers at LSE who are carrying out interdisciplinary research in the field of the urban (see Overview). The URC aims to generate substantial new urban research initiatives that will become a hub of urban scholarship and debate at LSE and beyond. It seeks to generate research on questions associated with contemporary urbanisation, its challenges and possibilities, in and across, the global North and South.

We are fortunate to have a large number of eminent researchers based at LSE, located in various departments, centres and institutes, whose work is focused on the urban (see LSE Researchers, LSE Urban Research and Projects). The URC is the hub for these researchers, as well as the window for the outside world on urban research at LSE. The URC is also an information portal for research authored by LSE staff (see Publications).

Whilst the URC is a research hub, it has strong linkages with Doctoral and Masters level teaching (see Urban@LSE). The URC organises and co-ordinates a range of lectures and seminars throughout the academic year that will be of interest to both researchers and students (see Events). The LSE URC networks with other urban research centre internationally.

Urban research has a long history at the LSE, the URC is a portal for a number of specialised urban research initiatives: this portfolio will be developed as research topics demand (see LSE Urban Research and Projects).
