Occasional students
Each year the School allows a limited number of people to register as an Occasional student for the Autumn and Spring terms.
Occasional students may attend undergraduate lectures, subject to limitations on teaching space and with the permission of the lecturer(s) concerned. As registration for single classes is not possible, Occasional students must register for the whole terms' worth of lectures. Classes, seminars, tutorial assistance and assessment are not open to Occasional students.
A list of courses and units open to Occasional students and the content of each unit can be found in the undergraduate course guides in the online calendar at: www.lse.ac.uk/resources/calendar/courseGuides/undergraduate.htm. The unit explanations are arranged in department order to make it easier for students to find their area of interest. However, please note that it is not possible for Occasional students to attend any graduate courses/seminars, i.e. courses numbered from 400 onwards. To find out when each unit will be run (ie days and times), please telephone the Timetables Office on +44 (0)20 7955 6333.
Occasional students can attend as many units as they wish. All lectures are charged at £15 per hour and students will be billed on acceptance. On payment of the fees, the School will issue a receipt. Please note that refunds are not available once the fees have been paid.
Unfortunately it is not possible for Occasional students to be issued with LSE registration cards. Such students are therefore required to make their own arrangements about access to the LSE library (www.lse.ac.uk/library/).
At the end of the period for which an Occasional student has been registered, the School will issue on request a certificate listing the courses for which they have been registered. This certificate will not include a detailed record of attendance.
If you are interested in registering as an Occasional student, please download the Occasional student application form (PDF), and return it to the Undergraduate Admissions Office no less than four weeks before the beginning of the term in which admission is sought.
Please note that applications for the Autumn tem in 2008 should be submitted by Friday 12 September 2008 at the latest. ^
