Information for students
Introduction
The Timetables Office is responsible for scheduling all timetabled teaching, allocating that teaching to rooms and publishing it on the web. Student queries should be directed to the Student Services Centre.
Abbreviations
The timetable reports use the following abbreviations to refer to the LSE term structure:
MT = Michaelmas Term LT = Lent Term ST = Summer Term
Timetable viewed by module (course)
Sessional Timetable
For each department, this lists in code order all the modules that have teaching in the current academic session. In order to use this page you will need to know the code of the module you are looking for. There are many changes in the first few weeks of Michaelmas Term and it is advisable to check your timetable daily for the first three weeks of term.
Undergraduates/ General Course/ Erasmus/ diploma/ intercollegiate - personal timetables
The Timetables Office is responsible for the initial allocation of students to their teaching. This enables us to produce personal timetables. Once the initial allocation has been completed changes are actioned by the Student Services Centre.
In order to view your personal timetable you will need your LSE ID number. If at the start of Michaelmas Term you can not see your timetable by the date specified on the web page, it is probably because you have a timetable clash. If there is a clash in your timetable you will not be allocated to any of your teaching until the clash is resolved. Please check the timetable viewed by module, and change to courses that do not clash.
Undergraduates/ General Course/ Erasmus/ diploma/ intercollegiate - requesting a change to your class group allocation
Students may only request to change timetabled classes in exceptional circumstances. For details on how to request a change to your class group allocation please see Class changes (undergraduate)
Undergraduates - online course choice
For details of the online course choice system for undergraduates please see Course choice (undergraduate)
Capped courses
Undergraduate students should refer to the following link for further information on capped courses: Capped undergraduate courses 2008/09
Changes to teaching
When a change is made to teaching, the timetable on the web will update overnight. If you are a student who has a personal timetable then you will receive an email detailing the change. Also, when changes are made a paper notice is placed either on the door or on the notice board adjacent to the door giving details of the change.
Cancellations
The Timetables Office endeavours to action cancellations as soon as they are notified. However, this is often at very short notice. If you are a student with a personal timetable you will be sent an email. A notice will be placed on the door of the room where the cancelled meeting was scheduled to take place.
Term dates
Please see Term dates for an up-to-date list.
LSE for You
LSE for You is an online facility that harnesses the School's administrative systems and enables students and staff to view or update their personal details from inside or outside the School. Only students and staff issued with network usernames and passwords may access LSE for You. Undergraduates make their module choices through LSE for You, having them automatically checked and validated against the programme regulations. Tutors' pages provide facilities to confirm or reject these choices, or request that the student visit them to discuss. Undergraduate students can also view their personal timetable via LSE for You.
Students taking Language Centre courses (but not undergraduate degree courses)
Registration for Modern Foreign Language (MFL) Certificate courses, English for academic purposes (EAP) insessional classes and study skills classes is handled by the Language Centre. Details on information sessions and how to register can be found on the Language Centre website.
Any classes you register for will not appear in your personal timetable but all times are listed on the sessional timetable.
All class change requests are handled by the Language Centre. The reception is on the 7th floor of the Clare Market Building and is open for class administration Monday-Thursday 9:15am-5:30pm and Fridays 9:15am-4:30pm.
If your request involves a different module (ie courses) then you must first seek permission of a member of the appropriate language team. Office hours are listed here. See Teaching staff office hours. ^
