Research postgraduates also have access to PC rooms in their departments, providing at least one computer per three research students - for more information, enquire in your own department.
There are printing facilities in all open access areas, research rooms and computer classrooms on campus. Before you can print, you will need to credit your printing account using the white value loaders in A038, C120, SO8, Library 1st and Lower Ground floors, or at the Copy Shop on the ground floor of the Library. The cost of printing is 4p per page for black-and-white prints and 30p per page for colour. See: http://ittraining.lse.ac.uk/documentation/printing.asp
Specialist facilities are available for students with disabilities, including dedicated computer workstations and printing facilities, and screen reading and voice recognition software for blind and visually impaired students. See: http://www.lse.ac.uk/itservices/Accessibility/Students.htm
IT facilities in residences
All residences are wired for direct connection to the School network and students may use their own computer in their study bedroom or in the wireless zone, located in the social and recreational areas in residences. There are a small number of open access PCs in each residence computer room as well as printing facilities.
Using your own computer
Computer ownership is not obligatory, but if you do bring your own PC to the UK from overseas, it must be able to handle the UK power supply (220-240 volts) or you will need to purchase a voltage converter. You will also need an adaptor for the 3-pin UK power sockets. For advice on the recommended minimum specification for personally-owned computers at LSE, see: http://www.lse.ac.uk/itservices/facilities/personal_computers.htm
On campus, there are over 200 laptop plug-in points in the Library for students to use, and laser printing is also available. In addition there is an extensive wireless network from which you can gain access to the internet and e-mail.
