Ceremony Booking and Tickets

Attendance

Students attending CeremonyPresentation ceremonies are held twice a year: in July for students who have followed undergraduate or nine-month taught postgraduate degree programmes, and in December for students who have followed twelve-month taught postgraduate degree programmes. Nine-month Masters students should note that, if you have followed a nine-month degree programme but have taken an option from a twelve-month programme, it may not be possible for you to be presented until the December ceremony that year.

MPhil/ PhD research students are presented in both July and December. To be eligible, you must appear on the University of London pass list by 30 April to attend the July ceremonies, and 30 September to attend the December ceremonies. If you do not receive notification in time then you will be eligible to attend the next ceremony.

Booking a Place

The Presentation ceremonies in December 2008 will take place on the 17th and 18th December. Invitations will be sent to your LSE email account approximately two months prior to this. The email will contain details of how to book your place. You must submit your booking by the deadline specified, even if you have not received your results. If you do not submit your booking  you will not be permitted to attend the ceremony.

The deadline for booking for the December 2008 Presentation Ceremonies is the 14th November 2008

If you have any debts with the school you will not be permitted to attend the presentation ceremony. You must ensure that you have cleared your debts prior to the ceremonies.

Guest Tickets

You are entitled to purchase up to two guest tickets. The tickets are £20.00 each. The charge is made to cover all expenses of the event, for which the School receives no other funding.

If you and/or your guest(s) have any special requirements e.g access, visual impairment, please email ceremonies@lse.ac.uk  We can normally make special arrangements for  people with disabilities provided we are contacted in advance.

Collection of tickets

We do not post tickets. They must be collected in person and signed for. You will need to produce your student card in order to collect your tickets. A friend can collect them on your behalf but they will also need to produce your student card.

Tickets will be available for collection from the Student Services Centre on the day prior to the ceremonies. Tickets will also be available for collection on the day of the ceremonies from the Peacock Theatre. If you plan to collect tickets on the day, please allow sufficient time to do so as the Theatre is likely to be very busy.

Tickets for the December 2008 Presentation Ceremonies will be available for collection from the Student Services Centre on the 16th December.

Additional Tickets and Screening of Ceremonies

Please note that we do not operate a waiting list for additional guest tickets.

If there are any unallocated guest seats on the day of the ceremony, they will be made available for purchase on the day on a first-come, first-served basis.  This ticket desk will be located on the ground floor of the Old Building, outside the entrance to the Old Theatre and will open at 9am for 10.30am ceremonies, and two hours before the start of all other ceremonies.  Extra tickets will be limited to two per student. Guests can purchase tickets on behalf of the student by quoting the student's name.  However, please note that it will not be possible to seat additional guests with pre-booked guest tickets.

As we are unable to guarantee the availability of additional tickets, we would recommend that students do not make expensive travel arrangements for ticketless guests. Guests without tickets will, however, be able to watch a live screening of the ceremony in room G108, located in the School's 20 Kingsway Building. The entrance to 20 Kingsway is on Portugal Street, directly opposite the Peacock Theatre entrance.  Please note that guests without tickets will unfortunately not be able to attend the reception.

We will also be trialling live webcasts of the ceremonies.  These will be broadcast on the following page:

http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/LSEPublicLecturesAndEvents/live/LSELive.htm

It is the first time we are using this facility, and we would therefore be grateful if users would email any feedback or comments to us at ceremonies@lse.ac.uk.

Payment

Details on payment are provided in the invitation email sent out to students

Cancellations and Refunds

You must submit your booking by the submission date even if you are unsure of your results.  If you are unsuccessful in obtaining your degree, you will not be able to attend the ceremony. We will cancel your booking and refund any guest tickets.  Once you have successfully completed the requirements for an award you will, of course, be eligible to attend the following presentation ceremony.

If wish to cancel your booking for any other reason you must do so via email at ceremonies@lse.ac.uk no later than two weeks prior to your ceremony.  If you notify us any later than this we may not be able to issue a refund for any guest tickets that you have purchased.

Please note that any refunds will be issued after the ceremonies.

Ede and Ravenscroft, the suppliers of academic dress, will normally refund the cost of gown hire if you do not successfully complete your degree, but you should contact them directly for further details.
