Extending your Student Visa through the Student Services Centre

If you are a student from outside the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland, you are likely to have needed to apply for a student visa in your home country before you came to start your first course in the UK. As many students at the LSE come from previous courses at institutions within the UK, many students find the visa from their previous course expires very early in their new course at the School. The Student Services Centre’s Visa Office will help students who have a current student visa, and need more time in the UK as a student, to apply for a student visa extension through the Student Batch Scheme.

To be on-time, a visa application must be submitted (ie put in the post) before the end of the day on which the visa expires. However, applications can be submitted as soon as eligibility can be proved – there is no need to wait until close to the expiry date if you can show you have a confirmed place on the course, and the funding for the programme. The Student Services Centre suggests that students begin their application process at least one month before their visa expires – please note that the Visa Office is likely to get busy in October and towards the end of each month, and appointment opportunities are limited. Applications submitted shortly after their expiry date may be considered but no appeal rights will be granted if the initial application is refused.
