Post Study Work
The International Graduates Scheme (IGS) which was implemented in 01 May 2007 has been replaced by the Post Study Work visa. The Post Study Work visa falls under Tier One of the Points Based Immigration System. It enables international students who have acquired a Bachelor degree or higher qualification in any subject to apply for a visa and remain in the UK to work for up to two years.
Key features of the scheme:
- Applicants must apply within twelve months of obtaining their qualification.
- Any degree class (except fail) will be eligible
- Those with postgraduate diplomas will be eligible to apply
- Eligible international graduates will be offered a permit granting permission to stay in the UK for up to two years in order to seek work.
Documents required from LSE
- Original award letter - you can order it online from Student Services Centre. Please note that you will only be able to order the letter if your degree has been confirmed (after 21 July for undergraduate and 9-month masters programmes finalists and after the meeting of the Graduate Schoolboards of Examiners for 12-month masters programmes finalists. Those will meet on either 6 October, 17 October or 7 November, please confirm the date with your department)
Other documents
- Proof that you have sufficient funds to maintain yourself while you look for work
- Proof that you previously had entry clearance, leave to enter or leave to remain as a student or as a dependent
NB. The requirements relating to proof of available funds and previous leave are very specific and it is essential that you meet them in order to qualify. We strongly recommend that you carefully read the Home Office guidance notes before completing the application form.
