Registration 2008 (graduate students)
 


New
graduate students should refer to Section 1.  Continuing graduate students should refer to Section 2.  Section 3 contains information which is applicable to all graduate students.

Registration is for degree programmes only. You will not be required to choose individual courses at registration.

Section 1 (for new graduate students)

Programme registration for new graduate students will take place on the following dates:

(Note: If you are required to attend a pre-sessional course as part of your Master's Programme, you will need to register prior to the commencement of the course.) 

1)       Students required to attend a pre-sessional course offered by the Economics Department: on Friday 5 September 2008 in the Student Services Centre (Old Building) from 10.30am to 1:00pm.  Please see List A for details.  

2)       Students required to attend a pre-sessional course offered by the Finance/Mathematics/Statistics Departments: on Friday 12 September 2008 in the Student Services Centre (Old Building) from 10.30am to 1.00pm. Please see List B for details.

3)       Diploma and Masters students: from Wednesday 24 to Friday 26 September in the Hong Kong Theatre (Clement House) from 10.30am to 2.30pm.  Please see List C for details.  (Note: Students who are going to move into LSE accommodation are not required to complete their registration during the scheduled session, but can do so on the following Monday or Tuesday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.)  

4)       MPhil/PhD students: from Wednesday24 to Friday 26 September, and from Monday 29 September to Wednesday 1 October 2008 in the Research Degrees Unit (6th Floor, Tower 2) from 10.30am to 2.30pm.  Please see List D for details.    

Each day has been scheduled for a particular category of students. Please refer to the list relevant to you to identify the date on which you will be expected to attend. Please do not come before your scheduled date as we will not be able to register you.

Before you leave home

In order to avoid delays at registration, new students who have not returned all the required admissions paperwork (such as transcript of results, acceptance form, financial undertaking form) should ensure that these reach the Graduate Admissions office as soon as possible. List A: Students required to attend a pre-sessional course offered by the Economics Department  

Students on the following programmes are required to attend a pre-sessional course in September and will register on Friday 5 September in the Student Services Centre (Old Building) from 10.30am to 1.00pm.  

  • MPA Programme (all branches/streams) - students with permission to take Economics option courses only
  • MRes in Economics (Track 1)
  • MSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics
  • MSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics (Research)
  • MSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics (two-year programme)
  • MSc Economics
  • MSc Economics (Research)
  • MSc Economics and Philosophy
  • MSc Finance and Economics
  • MSc Finance and Economics (Research)
  • MSc Management and Economics

List B: Students required to attend a pre-sessional course offered by the Finance/Mathematics/Statistics Departments:

Students on the following programmes are required to attend a pre-sessional course in September and will register on Friday 12 September in the Student Services Centre (Old Building) from 10.30am to 1.00pm.  

  • MSc Finance (full-time)
  • MSc Financial Mathematics
  • MSc Risk and Stochastics

List C: Diploma and Masters students  

Registration for Diploma and Masters students will be split into three days from Wednesday 24 to Friday 26 September in the Hong Kong Theatre (Clement House) from 10.30am to 2.30pm as set out below:  

 

i) Wednesday 24 September for Diploma and Masters students in the following departments:

  • Accounting*
  • Development Studies Institute
  • Economics*
  • Employment Relations and Organisational Behaviour
  • Finance #
  • Information Systems
  • Management**
  • Managerial Economics and Strategy
  • Methodology Institute
  • Operational Research

    * For students required to attend a pre-sessional course offered by the Economics Department, please see List A above.

    **For students on MSc Management and Economics, please see List A.

    # For students on MSc Finance (full-time), please see List B above. For students on MSc Finance (part-time), your department will advise you of details in due course.

ii) Thursday 25 September for Diploma and Masters students in the following departments:

  • Economic History
  • Gender Institute
  • International Relations
  • Geography and Environment
  • Law
  • Mathematics*

  • Sociology
  • Statistics*

     * For students required to attend a pre-sessional course offered by the Mathematics/Statistics Departments, please see List B above.

iii) Friday 26 September for Diploma and Masters students in the following departments:

  • Anthropology
  • European Institute
  • Government*
  • International History
  • Media and Communication
  • Philosophy*
  • Social Policy (Students on MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing will automatically be registered by the School and should come to the Student Services Centre to collect their LSE student ID card which will be available from midday on Monday 6 October 2008.)

    *For students required to attend a pre-sessional Economics course, please see list A above.

What do I do if I miss my scheduled registration session?  

For Diploma and Masters students who are not able to attend their scheduled session due to unavoidable circumstances, there will be arrangements for late registration as follows:

i) From Thursday 25 September to Tuesday 30 September in the Hong Kong Theatre (Clement House) from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.  

ii) From Wednesday 1 October to Friday 3 October in the Hong Kong Theatre (Clement House) from 10.30am to 1.00pm.

iii) From Monday 6 October to Tuesday 7 October in the Student Services Centre (Old Building) from 10.30am to 1.00pm.

List D: MPhil/PhD students

Registration for MPhil and PhD students will take place from Wednesday 24 to Friday 26 September and from Monday 29 September to Wednesday 1 October 2008 in the Research Degrees Unit (6th Floor, Tower 2) from 10:30am to 2.30pm.  In order to avoid queues, please try to attend on the date shown for your department; if however you are unable to do this you can register at any of these times.   

  • Accounting and Finance to Economic History on Wednesday 24 September;
  • Economics to Geography on Thursday 25 September;
  • Government to Information Systems on Friday 26 September;
  • International History and International Relations on Monday 29 September;
  • Law to Philosophy on Tuesday 30 September;
  • Social Policy to Statistics on Wednesday 1 October.  

Section 2 (for continuing graduate students)

There will be different procedures for different categories of students as set out below:

1)       Diploma and Masters students 

If you have fulfilled the requirements to progress to the next year of study and have no outstanding debts to the School, you should register for the 2008/9 session online via the ‘Registration for continuing students’ option on LSE for You.  To complete the registration procedure, click on the option and follow the on-screen instructions. 

The facility will be available from Friday 5 September (at 2pm) to Friday 10 October 2008.  If you have lost your student ID card or if your current card has an expiry date of 22 Oct 2008 or earlier, you can order a new card when completing the registration procedure online.  The School will notify you via email (normally within three working days) when the new card is ready for collection.   

Note: Students who are going to study at an overseas institution in the 2008/9 session will automatically be registered by the School. 

2)       MPhil/PhD students 

Registration for continuing MPhil and PhD students for the 2008/9 session will be done automatically by the School on receipt of your annual progress report form.  You should therefore ensure that this is completed before you leave for the summer.  Students who have not submitted the form will not be able to re-register for the 2008/9 session.
