Groups
Starting Thursday 6 November 2008: 3 week Stress Management Group will be run from 11:30 - 1:00 on Thursdays. This provides an opportunity to examine anxieties and concerns about being at LSE, and learn a range of new coping strategies to help manage with all different types of stress.
Starting Monday 24 November 2008: 3 week Self Esteem Group will be run from 11:00 - 1:00 on Mondays. This group is for students who may sometimes lack confidence or feel they have low self - esteem. It will explore ways of raising self-esteem, how to think more positively, and how to become more confident.

This workshop looked at the difficulties with perfectionism, which impedes the progress that many students make in their work, both in written assignments and in preparing for coming exams. It included a range of techniques and tips for dealing with them. Monday 14 January.

This looked at the difficulties with procrastination, examining the negative thoughts and behaviours that inhibit students from being able to work. It also examined a range of techniques and practical tips. Wednesday 6 February.

Stopping & Starting - A workshop on perfectionism and procrastination
This workshop was for MSc and PhD students, and explored many of the psychological challenges that can impede and inhibit different stages in the writing process. See below for previous powerpoints dealing with perfectionism and procrastination. There are also powerpoints and videos on many issues for MSc students at the Learning World website.

Other Group news:
The Self Esteem Group will be run again in October 2008. This group is for students who may sometimes lack confidence or feel they have low self - esteem. It explores ways of raising self-esteem, how to think more positively, and how to become more confident. Likewise, the Stress Management Group will be run again in October. This 3 week group provides an opportunity to examine anxieties and concerns about being at LSE, and learn a range of new coping strategies to help manage with all different types of stress. Both these groups will be repeated in future terms.
We are currently running a PhD Students Group. This group offers a space in which students can look at a range of issues connected with the experience of doing doctoral research work, including stress, motivation, writer's block and isolation. Participants will get help to regain perspective on their research work, develop creative solutions and strategies, and experience a reduction in emotional stress and tension. The group will also help students to gain understanding of the impact of different personal, familial, institutional and cultural stressors on themselves and their work. This group is a slow-open group in that members may leave the group over time and spaces will become available. If you are interested in taking up a place in the group, please contact the office.
