Introduction
Be aware, be safe, be happy
Welcome to the website of the London School of Economics and Political Science Security, Reception and Porters Section. The purpose of the site is to aid understanding of the way in which the School's security and other systems work to help you maintain and improve your safety and security in the workplace. Further to promote the ethic that we are all dependent upon each other for our safety and security in the School.
The LSE campus comprises of 20 or so buildings, spilt between public streets. it is a place of intellectual excitement and cutting edge research, an academic powerhouse, of people from every corner of the globe. you'll find yourself using many LSE buildings and meeting people from around 150 different countries. on top of that, LSE is right in the heart of what is perhaps the most diverse and lively city in Europe or maybe the world.
This website offers advice, statistics and recommendation keeping you safe and secure at LSE, and keeping the school a pleasant, welcoming and inspiring environment for everyone. we are never complacent about security. but be assured too that serious crime is not, and has never been, a problem at LSE.
Fear of crime can blight people's lives and must always be balanced against true or real risk. Around 80 percent of crime is committed by opportunist thieves. while both men and women fear crime, statistics show that men and women aged between 18 and 24 are the most frequently affected by serious crime. But at LSE, real risk is low. please be vigilant but please also be re-assured, and enjoy your time with us.
Any suggestions, comments or thoughts that you might have about improving our website, our performance as a section, or improve overall safety and security in the School in an effective, efficient and economic way would be gratefully received.
