IT support at Northumberland House
First of all, a very warm welcome to all, including myself, to Northumberland House. I will be your Residence IT Advisor for this academic year. If you run into any IT related trouble during your stay, please feel free to email me at Residences.Northumberland.Itsupport@lse.ac.uk. Please include your room number and the time that you will be available in your room in the email.
Network connection from your room:
If you haven't already, please take a moment to register your residence laptop/desktop computer at http://www.lse.ac.uk/itservices/remote /connecting/register.htm to gain internet access.
All the rooms here are equipped with Ethernet ports for direct access to the LSE network and Internet. You will need a cable, if you don't already have one, you can buy this from the LSE student union shop. You can also get one online, eg www.ebay.co.uk or www.amazon.co.uk etc.
I will be available to come to your room if your Ethernet port does not seem to be functioning. Just send me an email, and we can arrange a mutually convenient time.
Things to note:
I would very much appreciate your understanding that I am not a full-time staff at the LSE. Sometimes, you might need to wait for a few hours before I will see your email. But I can assure you that I do check it at reasonable intervals, and that I usually deal with your queries immediately. Also, I am not a computer professional. I am just a student like you, though with more experience of IT. I may not be able to resolve your problem directly sometimes, but I will at least refer you to the right person for help.
And most importantly - please use protection. The School provides free McAfee antivirus software - use it! For more information on protecting your computer, please see Good Practice.
