Hall rules and information

Northumberland House presents particular challenges and opportunities for everyone involved. Some of you may already have experience of sharing a building and its facilities with so many other people, but it is nevertheless worthwhile spelling out clearly the general principles in order to minimise tensions and make the experience pleasant and enjoyable for all concerned.

  • Awareness of the needs of other people
  • Compliance with rules and the instructions of residence staff
  • Patience and tolerance in the face of delays or mistakes

The School aims to ensure that individuals of whatever disability, age, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, gender, religion, beliefs, sexual orientation, personal circumstances, political affiliation or trade union are treated equitably. Prejudice on the basis of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation is unacceptable

You will find that almost all of the rules and guidelines set out here are based on one (or more) of these principles and that whatever the issue may be - whether a complaint about noise, behaviour towards residence staff or disorderly conduct - the purpose of these is no more than to ensure the rights of those who may be affected by selfish behaviour are upheld and protected equitably without, on the other hand, stifling legitimate freedom of action.
