Lilian Knowles House

Opened in 2006, Lilian Knowles House is one of LSE’s newest halls of residence. Behind a historic façade, it provides the comforts of modern living in one of the oldest parts of London. It is a short underground, bus ride, or 35-minute walk from the LSE campus, past some of Britain’s greatest landmarks. The thriving area is houses part of London’s financial district, several markets, including Spitalfields and Brick Lane, and has no shortage of restaurants, cafes, and other venues. The nearby Barbican Centre hosts a wide range of film, music, art, dance, and theatre events, and there are plenty of places to explore during your stay here.

Lilian Knowles House itself is arranged primarily in clusters, with 4-8 single rooms sharing a kitchen, and a few studios and flats in the building. A common room is shared by all students in the building. The hall is managed by Shaftesbury Student Housing, an independent housing association with several halls across London. Residence staff manage the hall on a daily basis and help make sure that things are running smoothly. Whether you are here for just one year or the first of three, I encourage you to participate fully in residence life, and hope that your time at Lilian Knowles House memorable and rewarding.
