RAE 2008 and beyond (Research Excellence Framework)
Overview
RAE 2008 is the fourth such national exercise since 1992, and is conducted to assess the quality of UK research and to assist in the distribution of funds for research by the four UK higher education funding bodies.
The exercise will provide quality profiles for research across the disciplines within the School. An overall quality profile will comprise the aggregate of the weighted profiles produced for research outputs, research environment and esteem indicators.
In November 2007 the School made its submission to fourteen sub-panels. The main body of the assessment will take place in 2007-08, and it is anticipated that outcomes will be published by the funding bodies in December. The School is now concentrating on the replacement to the Research Assessment Exercise - the Research Excellence Framework.
