Using Je-S - Research Council Electronic Submissions
From 1 September 2005 ESRC and EPSRC will no longer accept paper submissions and applicants must therefore apply for research funding using the RCUK electronic submission system called Je-S. AHRC will continue to allow paper submissions until 31 August 2006 but encourages electronic submissions through Je-S.
Using Je-S, researchers and administrators can prepare research grant proposals for the participating Councils. RPDD is then required to approve all applications before they are formally submitted to the Councils. There is an automatic approval system built into the Je-S system to facilitate this. RPDD will also continue to obtain Convenor approval for all research proposals and to follow established research ethics procedures as necessary.
To submit proposals using Je-S both applicants and the submitting organisation (for joint proposals this is the lead institution) must be registered for Je-S. The School is already registered to submit applications through Je-S and has also pre-registered all of the School's academic staff. Each individual academic should have received an email generated by the Je-S system advising them of their log-in and password details, which will need to be used to complete the registration process at https://je-s.rcuk.ac.uk/eforms/secure/Login.asp. If you have not received either log-in or password details you should call the Je-S helpdesk on 01793 444164.
It is possible for more than one member of staff to work on a single proposal at one time by controlling user access rights to the document. This is achieved by following the procedures under "User Access Privileges" found on the Je-S menu once you have created a proposal document.
EPSRC already encourages the submission of final reports and expenditure statements through Je-S and ESRC are expected to follow in due course.
Tutorials are available on the Je-S website but members of RPDD will be happy to advise on usage of the system. Applications should be prepared well in advance of any funding deadlines to allow for any problems or difficulties to be addressed.
