Research funding

The Research and Project Development Division (RPDD) provides an advice, information and administrative service to all academic staff engaged in externally funded research. Our staff are organised into two specialist teams, pre-award and post-award, who together provide support throughout the project life-cycle from the initial application stage right through to project closure.

Our pre-award team assist colleagues with identifying appropriate sources of funding for their specific area of research and guide them through both internal regulations and the varying application procedures prescribed by the funding bodies. We help applicants identify relevant project costs, assist with the detailed preparation of budgets in line with full economic costing principles, handle contract negotiation, and provide advice on proposal presentation and IPR issues. For further information click here.

Our post-award team are available to provide advice and guidance throughout the project period on issues such as appointing research personnel, obtaining access to the funding and end of award reporting. They are also responsible for ensuring general compliance with the terms and conditions of individual project contracts and for ensuring that internal financial regulations are met. Each of the LSE’s departments, centres and institutes is allocated to a specific member of the team so that both academics and their administrators have a single point of contact for all of their projects.
