Major Review and Promotion in the Same Session: Deadlines and Documentation

DEADLINES FOR MAJOR REVIEW AND PROMOTION

Advancement of Major Review (if applicable):            by 17 October 2008

Requests for advancement of Major Review to be made, in writing, to Human Resources.  Requests should comprise a full case for advancement on the standard Form and a full curriculum vitae of the candidate submitted on the Major Review and Promotion CV template.
Referees:
Heads of Department to submit names of Major Review and Promotion candidates, the grade it is proposed candidates should be promoted to, and contact information of referees on the standard Form, to Human Resources.  

Major Review and Promotion Submissions:                by 7 November 2008

Heads of Department submit recommendations for Major Review and Promotion in the form of a full report on the individual(s) concerned, curriculum vitae and commentary on teaching contribution on the standard Forms, to the Human Resources Division.
Writings:

Three properly-ordered sets of up to four writings are required by the Promotions Committee to support proposals for Major Review and Promotion and should be submitted to the Human Resources Division. Three copies of any book reviews, whether favourable or unfavourable, should also be submitted.

DOCUMENTATION FOR MAJOR REVIEW AND PROMOTION IN THE SAME SESSION 

Please note: these documents are stored in Public Folders and are only accessible to those with an LSE username and password.

  1. Major Review and Promotion Form: completed by the Head of Department indicating the lecturer's research and teaching activities and administrative contribution and indicating the names of External Experts.
  2. The CV Template for Major Review and Promotion: completed by the candidate.  The Major Review and Promotion CV template instructions to candidates is a separate document.
  3. The Teaching Contribution Form: completed by the candidate.
  4. The Referees for Major Review and Promotion Form: completed by the Head of Department giving the names and full contact information (including email, telephone and fax) of eight outside referees to be consulted by the Promotions Committee: five nominated by the Department (including 1 reserve) and three nominated by the candidate (including 1 reserve).
  5. Three properly-ordered sets of up to four writings which the candidate believes best represent his/her qualities.
  6. Three copies of any reviews which have appeared on the candidate's books whether they are favourable or unfavourable.

MAJOR REVIEW TEACHING PRIZES

Nominations for Major Review Teaching Prizes should be submitted on the Major Review Teaching Prize Nomination Form.

MEETING DATES

29 October 2008: The Promotions Committee receives a full list of staff proposed for Major Review and Promotion, approves referees to be consulted forthwith, approves Departmental lists of External Experts and appoints Promotions Committee members to read candidates' writings.

4 February 2009: The Promotions Committee meets to consider and make decisions on Major Reviews, including award of Major Review Teaching Prizes for 2008-2009.   

26 February (& 27) February 2009: The Promotions Committee meets to consider and make decisions on proposals for Promotion.  The date of Friday 27 February 2009 is held in reserve for continuation of business from the previous day's meeting on Thursday 26 February 2009.
