Health plan 'missing key targets'
Professor Gwyn Bevan from the London School of Economics, an expert in the use of targets in the English health service, said they succeeded because failing trusts were named and failing bosses lost their jobs, something that has not happened in Wales. He said: ‘If you have a set of targets but some are missed and no one worries much about it...the whole thing loses credibility.’

New ID card cost estimates prompt fears over security
The Identity Project at the London School of Economics said the report explicitly acknowledged the decision to drop the use of iris biometrics. The LSE’s Dr Edgar Whitley said: ‘It is worrying that the only way that the government can still keep its initial promise that an identity card will cost only £30, despite two major cost reduction revisions to the scheme, is by effectively excluding the biometric enrolment element.’

Miliband's carbon-free world vision
Foreign Secretary David Miliband has called on Europe to lead the world in moving to a low-carbon economy. Speaking at the London School of Economics he said 'We face a new resource crunch, with spiralling energy and food prices as well as water shortages. 'Its origins are carbon dependence. We risk a scramble for resources, with each nation pitted against the other. The alternative is a transition from a global economy dependent on oil and gas to a low-carbon economy with a diverse mix of energy sources and suppliers.’
