LSE scores highly in latest university league tables
LSE was ranked third in the Independent newspaper Complete University Guide 2009, rising one place on the previous year. Oxford and Cambridge headed the rankings, with LSE's third position putting it ahead of Imperial, Warwick and Durham.
In the regional rankings tables, LSE moved up one place to second, behind Imperial College and ahead of UCL, SOAS and King's College.
In the subject tables, LSE ranked first in four areas - Accounting and Finance, Business Studies, Social Policy and Anthropology. It came second in Philosophy, Law, Economics and Geography, fifth in History, third in Politics, eighth in Sociology and eleventh in Mathematics.
Professor Janet Hartley, pro-director of teaching and learning at LSE, said: 'It is pleasing that we have risen one place from fourth to third nationally, but what is is most important is that we are consistently listed as one of the top universities in the UK in these rankings and that we have scored highly across all subject areas taught at the School.'
