Introduction

The LSE runs a Nursery, providing care for up to sixty three children aged between three months and school age 5. It is located in the Basement of the Halls of Residence at Wild Street. There are places for 23 babies aged six months to two years, 24 places for children aged 2 - 3 years and 16 places for children aged between three and five years.

Our aim is to provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment which enables children to develop at their own pace, whilst encouraging them to attain their full potential. The nursery is well equipped with multi-cultural and age appropriate toys which help to promote positive images in all aspects of play and your child is free to experience the activities offered in our well-planned daily routine.

All our staff are qualified nursery nurses who will make every effort to encourage play and learning through the Six learning goals and Birth to three Matters laid down by OFSTED. The six goals are: physical development, communication language and literacy, creative development, mathematical development, personal, social and emotional development and knowledge and understanding of the world. Each day children have the opportunity to engage in structured activities which focus on the planned development of their communication, language, literacy and numerical skills.

The Birth to three Matters covers 4 development areas; A Strong Child, A skilful Communicator, A Healthy Child, A Competent Learner.

The nursery is registered with OFSTED in accordance with the Children Act 1989 and staffing and other arrangements are approved by the local authority. The nursery is run under the supervision of the nursery Manager.

Registration Number is EY337931, registration date is 19-09-2006 with Westminster.

The staff to child ratio is as follows: 3 months - 2 years, 1:3; 2 years - 3 years, 1:4 and 3 years - 5 years, 1:8.

The running costs of the nursery are met by a combination of fee income, School subsidy and SU subsidy. The regulations set down on these pages are designed to ensure nursery users understand all the significant policies and procedures and to ensure the operation runs within its tight budget.
