“The New Academic Building will, at long last, provide LSE with an academic environment consistent with its academic reputation. It is the key which unlocks the future development of our ‘snug’ campus. Without it, we cannot hope to achieve our ambitions.”

~ Howard Davies, Director

LATEST NEWS : As from 1st September 2007, the new academic building will have the official postal address of 54 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, WC2A 3LJ.

The School’s new academic building at 24 Kingsway, WC2 was bought in October 2004. Originally constructed in 1912, the building is now undergoing a radical transformation and is on track to open in time for the new academic year in 2008. The School will then possess a 21st century learning environment commensurate with its world class status.

At the opening of the new building, the project will have taken over two years to construct and cost £46 million. It will provide four lecture theatres and a further two floors of teaching facilities, along with departmental and academic offices on the upper floors. The project is overseen by a project board chaired by the director of Finance and Facilities.

LSE is aiming for a building which will be one of the most environmentally-friendly buildings in the area.

The new building will permit the student body to grow from 7,500 to 9,000, an increase approved by the LSE Council as one that is a substantial rise, but not too large as to radically alter the character of the School. (Click here to read an Introduction to the School).
