Appointments Routine appointments to see any of the health professionals who work at the centre, ie, doctors (GP's), nurses, counsellors, gynaecologist, osteopath, massage therapist, can be made by coming in to the medical centre or over the telephone (020 7955 7016). Please let us know if you are unable to attend an appointment that you have booked as we may be able to offer it to another patient who needs it.

Blood tests If you have been given a form to have a blood test, please come to the medical centre between 9.30 - 10.00 Monday - Friday, remember to bring your blood test request form with you. If you are unable to attend at these times, please phone the medical centre in order to make an appointment to see a nurse who will take your blood test for you.

Cervical smears Women between the age of 20 and 65 years should have a cervical smear test every three years. You can make a routine appointment with the practice nurse. Please note that the appointment should be booked when you are in the middle of your menstrual cycle. Smears cannot be taken if you are menstruating. Please provide a SAE to enable us to inform you of the result of your smear.
Contraceptive clinic Dedicated contraceptive clinics are held Monday - Thursday between 13.30 - 14.30. You do not need an appointment to attend. All contraceptive prescriptions are fee in the UK. Emergency contraceptive pills (affective within72 hours of unprotected intercourse) is also available through this clinic.
You do not have to be a registered patient to attend the contraceptive clinic - although unregistered patients are only eligible to receive 3 months supply of prescription of contraceptive medication at any one time.

Dental Practice A dental service is available within the Health Centre. Fees payable are specific for staff and students of the LSE but are no longer National Health Service (NHS) fees.
The dental practice (Dentists : John Leach, Julian Ede and Denise Ngsiad ) is open from 09.00 am to 5.00 pm Mondays to Thursdays and 09.00 am to 1.00 pm on Fridays . Phone 020 7 955 7444 for an appointment.
Disabled access The medical centre has a disabled entrance with a lift for wheelchair access, at the side of the building. Please notify reception by phone or via the intercom that you will need to make use of the lift, so that someone can be available to assist you.

Emergency contraception Emergency contraception is available after unprotected intercourse or if your method of birth control fails, but you must be seen within 72 hours wherever possible. Please contact the medical centre as soon as possible to see a doctor or the nurse.

Gynaecologist Dr Valerie Little runs a clinic for gynaecological and contraceptive problems on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please phone 020 7955 7016 to book an appointment with her.
All GP's are also available for gynaecological, antenatal and contraceptive care by appointment.

Osteopathy Tim Hanwell, BSc Osteopathy. A clinic is held on Thursdays. A charge is made for this service. Appointments can be made at reception.

Practice nurses Toppa Bredenkamp (RGN, Bsoc.Sc) Inge Rautenbach (RGN, BsocSc)
Two practice nurses work at the medical centre - they provide a full range of nursing care and advice as well as running dedicated contraceptive and travel clinics.

Repeat prescriptions Patients on long-term medication may obtain repeat prescriptions with the doctor's approval. Prescription requests will not be taken over the telephone as mistakes can occur if requests are misunderstood. Additionally, telephone requests may block access for more urgent telephone calls to the surgery. A completed request slip, clearly indicating what you need, may either be:
- Left with the receptionist
- Sent by post if you include a SAE
Your prescription will be ready within two working days. You may either collect it from the reception desk during normal surgery hours or have it posted if you provided a SAE. Please note we cannot fax completed scripts or phone it through to the chemist.

Sexual Health
Advice and regarding diagnosis and management of sexual health related problems is available from doctors and nurses at the medical centre . If you would rather be seen at a specialist clinic - you can self-refer yourself to any centre in the London area ( see http://www.metromate.org.uk/info/clinics for a list ) where you will be seen and treated for free and in complete confidence .

Therapeutic massage Carol Whitwill BA (Hons), APNT, CMA A clinic is held on Tuesday and Fridays. A charge is made for this service. Appointments can be made at reception.
Travel clinics If you need advice, vaccinations or medication in relation to foreign travel please make an appointment to come to the Travel Clinic. These are run by the practice nurses who will help ensure that you stay healthy whilst you are abroad. Charges apply for certain medicines to be used when you are outside the United Kingdom. Please book an appointment during our travel clinic time at least six weeks before you intend to travel.

Urgent clinics Clinics for urgent medical appointments are held at 11.00 to 11.30 am and also 3.00 to 3.30 pm, each day Monday - Friday. If you have a urgent problem that needs attention that day, please come to the medical centre just before the clinic starts to book yourself in. ^
