CHANGES TO FIRE ASSEMBLY POINTS ON CAMPUS
As a result of the building works on the Plaza and works being undertaken by Thames Water, the emergency fire assembly points are being changed until the building works are completed. All staff will be notified by email of the revised assembly points. If you have any queries speak to the fire warden on floor or contact the health and safety team.
SUMMER SCHOOL FOR STAFF -
DON'T PUT YOUR BACK OUT!
As part of the "Summer School for Staff" organised by the Staff Development Unit, Tim Hanwell, the School's Osteopath will be giving a series of lunch time talks on avoiding aches and pains caused by poor posture both at work and at home. Whether you are sitting in front of a computer, TV or playstation, shopping, gardening or doing DIY you will be able to gather some useful tips on maintaining safe posture.
The sessions will take place on 21st August from 12 to 1pm and 11th September from 1pm to 2pm. (Venue to be confirmed see SDU website)

The School's procedure for responding to major emergencies, the Common Initial Emergency Response Procedure has been updated and is now available on this website.
The School is still looking for volunteers to assist Emergency Management Teams to carry out a variety of tasks in an emergency such as help setting up emergency control rooms, staffing telephone help-lines, acting as scribes or runners. Anyone who is interested in volunteering should contact Ann O'Brien, Head of Health & Safety.
Facilities for expectant and nursing mothers
We now have a room on the first floor of the Parish Hall, where expectant mothers can put their feet up and rest and where staff who are still breast-feeding and returning to work can express and store milk. (see photos) For more information and the entry code email Health and Safety.
First-Aid Training
An Emergency Treatment of Casualties course will be held on 15th September from 10.00 to 16.00 in the Parish Hall. The 1 day course will cover how to assess an injured person, how to place them in the recovery position, what to do if they have stopped breathing and how to control of bleeding. Anyone interested in attending should download an application form and return it to the Health and Safety Unit in Room U1006.)

The Health and Safety Executive has launched a better backs campaign to reduce back problems caused by poor posture and working practices.
Manual Handling training
The next manual handling courses will be held on Wednesday 10th September 2008 from 10.00 to 13.00. We all do some manual handling whether it is moving stationary or equipment at work or carrying shopping outside work. These short practical session gives information on how to use correct handling techniques to avoid injury. Anyone interested in attending should download an application form and return it to the Health and Safety Unit in Room U1006.)
