LSE and the environment
London's Greenest University 2008
LSE addresses environmental issues on four levels. This site aims to guide you through the various functions and initiatives that the School engages in.
Academic Many of the academics at the LSE are using their research expertise to work on sustainable development covering social, economic and environmental issues in a range of departments and centres. See the Centre for Environmental Policy and Governance (CEPG) and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment for more details.
Operational The LSE recognises its own environmental impact and responsibilities. Much of this work is achieved through staff and student cooperation, primarily managed by the Estates Division.
LSE Student Union The LSE Student Union (LSESU) is an active participant in environmental initiatives and campaigns, coordinated through their Environment and Ethics Officer, Justus Rollin. Email su.environment@lse.ac.uk.
Leadership for Higher Education in London The LSE chairs the London Universities Environmental Group (LUEG). This group aims to promote sustainable development within Higher Education Institutions (HEI) by sharing member information and collaborating with relevant partners in order to raise awareness and deliver sustainable development in the capitals universities.
Special Projects The LSE is currently running a HEFCE funded zero waste project, focusing on end-of-term reuse schemes in student halls of residences within the LSE and in seven partner Universities in England.
