Travelling in London and to the School

What's related > Campus accessibility and map

London is a very busy and congested city and travelling around can be problematic and time consuming. Transport for London Access & Mobility (formerly the London Transport Unit for Disabled Passengers) co-ordinates initiatives aimed at making public transport in London more accessible to people with disabilities. Further information can be found on Transport for London's webpage.

The London Underground

The London Underground is a very old system and the majority of stations do have stairs. Information about improvements currently being made to improve access can be found on Transport for London's Mobility impairment webpage. The page also contains maps and information on how to plan a tube journey avoiding stairs and escalators. Transport for London Access and Mobility can also be telephoned on 020 7941 4600 for information.

Taxicard scheme

Under the Taxicard scheme subsidised door-to-door transport by way of a taxi is provided to those with serious mobility problems who have difficulties in using public transport. You will pay a minimum flat fare, which will be set by the borough in which you live, and the rest of the cost will be subsidised up to a set maximum.

Further information about this scheme can be found on the Taxicard website, or by telephoning 020 7824 2929, or by writing to:

Mobility buses

Mobility buses are wheelchair accessible and run throughout London, although services are limited. Pre booking is not required and information of routes and timetables can be found on London's Busroutes' Mobility buses webpage, or by telephoning 020 7941 4600 for a Mobility Bus timetable leaflet covering your local area.

Access to Work Scheme

The Access to Work scheme is a government scheme, which provides help towards the extra costs of employing someone with a disability. Examples of the support include a contribution towards the extra cost of travel to and from work if using public transport is not possible.
Travel costs, in excess of the usual public transport costs, are met in full for new recruits and existing employees.

Access to Work grants cannot be given retrospectively so please contact:
