Coming to an event at LSE
LSE host a public lecture programme (PLP) consisting of over 100 lectures every term. Recent speakers at the School have included George Soros, Alan Greenspan, Kevin Rudd, the UN Human Rights Commissioner, as well as other leading politicians and academics.
The lectures are free and open to all with some events requiring a ticket so please check the individual web listing. The events generally take place in the early evening and last approximately one and a half hours, including a question and answer session.
In addition to the PLP there are a large number of other events taking place at LSE hosted by an academic department or student society the majority of events are listed at www.lse.ac.uk/events.
Accessibility & Special Requirements

- Other requirements please contact the events organiser whose information is detailed on the event listing. Please contact the organiser of the event in good time, so that arrangements, where possible, can be made.
Admittance Policy
- Admittance to any LSE event is always at the discretion of the event organisers.
- No dogs are allowed unless a guide dog.
- Seating is strictly subject to space and latecomers to events may not be admitted.
- For ticketed events, a ticket does not guarantee entry at any arrival time please check your ticket for further information.
Door Opening Times
- We recommend that you arrive at the venue 25-30 minutes before the event is scheduled to start to maximise your chances of gaining entry to the event.
- Many events are already full before the start time and there is no standing space available in the venues.
- Generally doors open 30 minutes before the advertised start time.
Food & Drink
- Unfortunately no food or drink is allowed to be consumed in the venues.
Smoking Policy
- Smoking is not permitted anywhere on LSE premises

Music events
- Music events generally take place in the Shaw Library, located on the sixth floor of the Old Building.

Parking
- There are only a few parking meters around the LSE campus - they are mainly on Lincoln's Inn Fields. There are also a few on Portugal Street, Sardinia Street and Sheffield Street.
- The nearest NCP parking is on Parker Street off Drury Lane.
- LSE has some disabled access parking bays in a car park under Tower Three - please call 020 7955 6055/7978 to book the bay in advance.
- For Blue Badge holders there are seven dedicated parking bays in the area: one in Portugal Street; one in Sheffield Street; three in Surrey Street and two in Temple Place.
Queuing
- You may be required to stand in a queue either to gain access to an event when the doors have not yet opened OR if joining a returns queue for a ticketed event.
Ticketed Event Information
- Information regarding admission policy to an event can be located on the individual listing for the event or if you know a ticket is required the event will be listed on Ticketed Events. All listings can be found at LSE Public Lectures and Events.
- Events that require a ticket are generally the more popular events and therefore we recommend that you request a ticket as close to the ticket request starting time/date to avoid disappointment.
- Ticket holders should arrive in plenty of time and at least ten minutes before the start time as seats are released after this time. A ticket does not guarantee a seat.
Transcripts
- Speakers are encouraged to provide a transcript to place on the website after the event however for various reasons this is not always feasible.
- Transcripts are located on our website - Event Transcripts.
- The majority of LSE public lectures take place in the Old Theatre or the Hong Kong Theatre.
