What is it? Where is it?

The Chaplaincy at the LSE is an integral part of the institution. It is here for all members of staff and all students. Whilst it certainly has a Christian identity it is nevertheless open to all, regardless of belief or non-belief.

The Chaplain is available to speak to anybody about anything and everything, and the conversation will remain confidential. The Chaplaincy’s existence is a reminder to the School and an assurance to its members that the well-being of a person is much more than their academic success and ability and seeks to assert the dignity of all human beings.

Activities and services

These include having a mixture of guest lecturers discussing social and political issues from a religious and ethical point of view, to the provision of Christian religious services (including an Anglican Eucharist, a Roman Catholic Mass, the space to pray, morning prayer). It also attempts to foster a greater common life within the School through social events, from visits to historic places in London, discussion groups, social groups, to parties at the Chaplain’s house.

If you were to come through the doors of the Chaplaincy nothing would be expected of you; you would not be asked to read the bible or sign up to a particular form of religious belief. You would simply be welcomed and listened to.

The Chaplaincy room is G9, 20 Kingsway, opposite the Peacock Theatre on Portugal Street. The telephone number is 020 7955 7965.
