Careers advice
All careers advisers have excellent knowledge of the labour market and can help you with the whole range of careers-related issues including choosing a career, job-hunting strategy, application forms and interview technique, as well as further study options. Go to LSE Careers advisers and careers interns to learn more and to read their appointment schedule.
You can book an individual discussion with a careers adviser about any aspect of your career or issues relating to it. Initially, you will be offered a 15 minute, careers advice session with the careers adviser who is on duty on the day you wish to come in. If you need longer with a careers adviser, longer Guidance interviews are available on referral following a careers advice session.
Frances Meegan is the careers adviser who has specific responsibility for providing one to one careers advice to PhD students. She is available to see PhDs Mon - Thur and if you would like to make an appointment with her you should call 020 7955 7135 during Careers Service opening hours. See PhD students for further details.
These are 15 minute, one to one sessions with a careers adviser in which you can request:
- Application form checking (please bring with you a draft copy of your application form)
- Careers discussion - to discuss any career-related matter.
Appointments are available Monday - Thursday during term time.
See Appointment Booking for details.
If you simply want your CV and/or cover letter checked you can book an appointment with one of our Careers Interns Monday-Thursday (Michaelmas and Lent term-time only). Please remember to bring with you a draft copy of your CV and/or cover letter. During the summer term, please book a Careers advice appointment instead where you can get your CV checked.
For detailed instruction on how to book online, refer to Appointment Booking
If we can't answer your query during a 15 minute discussion, we will refer you for a full guidance interview lasting up to 1 hour. We find these sessions are more useful if you have started your careers research, so we ask that you come for a careers advice session in the first instance.
