Career development month- June 2008
The Careers Service is running a number of events in June which are designed to help students from all years of study in planning and developing their careers. This is the perfect opportunity for you to gain invaluable help and advice from our careers advisers regardless of which stage of career planning you have reached. There will be specific events targeted at first and second years, seminars for final year and masters students, and seminars offering guidance about the graduate recruitment process. As part of Career Development Month LSE Careers Service is hosting its annual Jobs Fair on Thursday 19 June in the Senior Dining Room. This fair will give you the opportunity to meet with a wide range of organisations that are recruiting for imminent vacancies.
Organisations that will be attending the fair include: Accenture, Grant Thornton, Millward Brown, Exclusive Analysis, Deloitte , BDO Stoy Hayward, Amlin, Capital One, Gallup, HM Forces/The Army, HSBC, Markit, Optiver Holding, Standard Life, Jane Street Capital

4th June - Assessment Centres Seminar on Group Exercises This assessment centres seminar, hosted by a careers adviser, will provide an introduction to all aspects of an assessment centre, but will focus particularly on group exercises, explaining what recruiters are looking for, common mistakes, and ways to improve your group work skills
9th June Flying Start. Career planning for 1st Year Undergraduates This seminar will address many of the key issues for first years such as: Where can I find an internship or work experience opportunity? What are employers looking for? How can I get my career plan started? 9th June MBTI Personality and Careers Choice Using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire, a careers advisor will help you explore your preferred style of gathering and using information and your working style. The MBTI is not used in recruitment, but can be useful for personal development. 18th June Flying Start. Career planning for 2nd year undergraduates After 2 years at LSE it is time for you to take stock. This seminar will help you answer the following questions: Have you got what recruiters are looking for? How far have you come in your personal development? Which developmental opportunities should you still seek to include in your final year? What are some of the more typical graduate schemes around, what are alternatives? 24th June How to find a job for Masters students In this seminar we will look at all the strategies you can use to get yourself a job after your Masters. Are there still jobs being advertised? If so, how do you find them? Is it an option to apply for graduate training schemes in September? How do you find jobs that arent even being advertised? 25th June How to write a CV This session will give you an insight into what makes an excellent CV. It will cover what information needs to go into a CV, how to match the CV to the particular job you are applying for and how to structure the CV to make the most impact.
