About the LSE entrepreneur internship scheme - for employers

If so, you might be interested in hosting an LSE intern? LSE's Entrepreneurial Internship Scheme provides an opportunity for new and developing businesses to access some of the most sought after graduates in the country, who are looking to develop their research, problem-solving and analytical skills in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.

What do interns do?
In the past LSE interns in the entrepreneurial sector have worked in the following areas;
• PR/marketing
• Market research
• Business development and planning
• Finance
• Fundraising/Sales
• Administration/Office management
• IT software development/design
• Customer services/enquiries

How do I take part in the scheme?
All you need to do to take part is send your contact details, a brief description of the organisation, the internship and a person specification. Opportunities will be posted on the LSE internal job vacancy board and any interested students will contact your organisation directly. This allows you to communicate with the candidates in person and choose the most suitable individual(s) for the internship. This service is free of charge.

When are interns available?
Term-time: 1 – 1.5 days per week,
Holiday periods: 1-5 days per week

The internship does not need to be of a particular length or start on a particular date. It is up to you to decide how and when an intern can best benefit your organisation.

How will my organisation benefit?
• LSE graduates tend to be highly sought after by many of the biggest and most influential corporate and government organisations so you will be getting access to a pool of talented and highly motivated students at very little expense.

• Internships are a useful way of promoting your business to dynamic individuals from across the globe and, in the process, creating long-standing employer-student relationships.

• Offering work experience opportunities is increasingly viewed as a way of assessing potential employees or tailoring your human resources needs.

• LSE students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and generally posses excellent IT, research and analytic skills. Therefore, they can often bring fresh perspectives and critical thinking to your organisation.

• The internship scheme is likely to generate a range of PR opportunities that can be used to promote the company to clients and stakeholders alike.

Will I have to pay the intern?
Remuneration can be dependent on the size and turnover of the organisation, but it is suggested that interns are offered a weekly stipend which is at least the equivalent of the national minimum wage.

Venture@LSE Careers is the dedicated Entrepreneurship Support Zone of the LSE Careers Service. It offers advice and resources for students considering becoming self-employed, starting their own businesses or simply wanting to brush up their commercial skills.
