Visiting fellowships
Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship 2009/10
In the Autumn of 2008, the Sir Ratan Tata Foundation at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) will invite applications for the `Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship' now in its twelfth year. Applicants should be established scholars in the social sciences with experience of research on South Asia. Applicants should hold a PhD or comparable qualifications and experience - the fellowship is not intended for students registered for a degree or diploma, nor is it intended for senior academics.
- The `Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship' will be for a period of up to eight months, preferably starting 1st October 2009, and will be based at the Asia Research Centre at the LSE.
- The Fellow will receive a monthly subsistence allowance of up to £1500 a month, the exact amount depending on qualifications; and will be provided with office space and access to research facilities at the School.
- The Fellow will be expected to engage in research on a topic under the following themes:
- Poverty, Inequality, Human Development and Social Exclusion
- Quality of Public Life
- Regional Disparities
- Identities - Gender, Ethnicity, Language
- Economy and Environment
Preference will be given to topics that focus on contemporary social and economic concerns of South Asia.
- The Fellowship is open to candidates from South Asia, that is, the SAARC region.
- The Fellow will be expected to finish a piece of research of publishable quality during their stay and make a presentation at a seminar or lecture arranged by the Asia Research Centre.

CR Parekh Fellowship 2009/10

Applicants should be established scholars in the social sciences with experience of research on India. Applicants should hold a PhD or comparable qualifications and experience - the fellowship is not intended for students registered for a degree or diploma, nor is it intended for senior academics.
- The `C.R. Parekh Fellowship' will be for a period of three months, preferably starting 1st October 2009 to allow the Fellow to fully participate in academic activities around, and will be based at the Asia Research Centre at the LSE.
- The Fellow will receive a monthly subsistence allowance of up to £1200 a month, the exact amount depending on qualifications; and will be provided with office space and access to research facilities at the School.
- The Fellow will be expected to engage in research on a topic under the following themes:
- Poverty, Inequality, Human Development and Social Exclusion
- Quality of Public Life
- Regional Disparities
- Identities - Gender, Ethnicity, Language
- Economy and Environment
- Political Structures and Processes
- Constitutional Debates
Preference will be given to topics that focus on social, economic, political and constitutional concern to India

Asia Research Centre Visiting Fellowship
Asia Research Centre (ARC) invites prominent academics/ researchers who work on Asia, from across the world. ARC provides a selected fellow with research space at the Centre subject to availability and conditions, and library facilities. The duration of an ARC visiting fellowship can be from one month to one year and can be renewed up to three years in total. The position of ARC Visiting Fellowship is normally open to those who have obtained a PhD degree. Visitors are required to pay bench fees of £2500 per academic year (pro-rated for shorter terms). Exemptions to this are allowed only on an exceptional basis.

British Academy / ESRC: Chinese Visiting Fellowships
The British Academy, in partnership with the Economic and Social Research Council, invites applications for its Chinese visiting fellowships. This scheme enables early-career scholars from China to apply directly to the Academy and the ESRC, in conjunction with their UK hosts, for research visits to the UK of at least two months.
