"mini-bio" for Dr. Ehtisham Ahmad.

 

Dr. Ehtisham Ahmad holds degrees from the Universities of Cambridge, Punjab and Sussex. He has held academic positions at the Universities of Islamabad, Warwick and the London School of Economics, where he was Director of the Development Economics Research Center (STICERD). He has also been at the World Bank (as member of the World Development Report on Poverty, 1990) and has been at the Fiscal Affairs Department, IMF, since then (March 1990- April 2008; and was Advisor at the time of leaving)—apart from two years as Special Advisor to the Saudi Finance Minister. He is currently Associate Fellow at the Asia Research Center at the LSE and Special Advisor to the Pakistan Ministry of Finance.

Dr. Ahmad has published widely, and his books include Tax Reforms in Developing Countries (with Nicholas Stern); Social Security in Developing Countries (with Amartya Sen, John Hills and Jean Drèze); Reforming Chinese Public Finances (with Gao Qiang and Vito Tanzi); Financing Decentralized Expenditures;  Managing Fiscal Decentralization (with Vito Tanzi); and Handbook of Fiscal Federalism (with Giorgio Brosio).
