Dr Geoffrey Gowlland
Dr Geoffrey Gowlland received his PhD from the University of Cambridge. He conducted fieldwork in a ceramics production centre of South China (Jiangsu Province). His doctoral dissertation addressed the issues of learning and transmission of technical and aesthetic knowledge in the context of the renewed legitimacy of private spaces of production. This research also lead to interests in Chinese conceptions of the person, and of authorship and creativity. Theoretically, he has particular interests in learning and the acquisition of skills, and in the anthropology of art and material culture. ^
