The Serena Hotel is located in the centre of the city at Avenue de l'Armée, Kigali, Rwanda. The Hotel is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the Kigali University Hospital.
Registration will take place at the Serena Hotel on Tuesday 9 September 2008 from 10am to 6pm and will continue on Wednesday 10 September from 7am until 8.30am. Participants are encouraged to register on Tuesday to avoid congestion and delays on the first day of the conference.
Please note: upon registration, participants will receive a conference badge. The display of the badge is required for admission to the Conference room and restaurant.
Foreign visitors entering Kigali must be in possession of a valid passport (with minimum validity of 6 months) and may be required to have a visa.
Participants are encouraged to obtain a visa before traveling to Rwanda see below for the list of nationalities who do not need a visa for entry to Rwanda. To obtain a visa, please go to the Rwandan Embassy in your country or a neighbouring country; see below for a list of Rwandan Embassies.
Participants coming from countries that do not have a Rwandan embassy should either submit the Visa application to their nearest embassy OR use the online facility. The online facility enables visa applicants to receive a single entry visa of 15 days for the cost of US$60 at the airport or any other entry point. The entry application is made through the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration website: http://www.migration.gov.rw/singleform.php and all applicants must provide an email address.
Participants who are nationals, who hold a passport from the following countries, do not need an entry visa: USA, Germany, Canada, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, South Africa, Kenya, Great Britain, Sweden, Mauritius, Hong Kong and Burundi. Participants holding Diplomatic and official passports do not need a visa.

HEALTH It is advisable that participants take preventive medicine against malaria.
ARRIVAL All participants should arrive in Kigali not later than the evening of Tuesday 9 September 2008.
The main gateway to Rwanda is the Kigali International Airport located in the suburb of Kanombe, at the eastern edge of Kigali, approximately 12 km (7.2 miles) from the city centre.
Upon arrival, there will be transport services to your hotel free of charge. Please confirm your arrival date and time, and the name of the hotel you are staying in, by sending an email to Africa.forum@lse.ac.uk.
Please note that non-biodegradable polyethylene bags are banned in Rwanda.
You are responsible for arranging your accommodation.
Transport between hotels and the conference venue will be provided free of charge for participants. Please confirm your arrival date and time, and the name of the hotel you are staying in, by sending an email to Africa.forum@lse.ac.uk.
Buffet lunches on both days of the Forum will be provided at the Serena Hotel, as will tea, coffee and biscuits at breaks. Please wear your meeting badge so that you can be easily identified by the restaurant attendants.
All participants are invited to attend a dinner hosted by the Government of Rwanda at the Serena Hotel on Wednesday 10 September 2008 at 8pm.
Please note that breakfast is included in the hotel price; most hotels do not have hairdryers in the rooms.

The Rwandan Franc (RWF) is the currency of Rwanda. The exchange rate for the Rwandan Franc in mid-July 2008 is: 540RWF = 1US$, 850 RWF = 1; and 1000 RWF = 1 UK £
A Bureau de Change can be found at the airport and at SERENA hotel. Banks in Kigali are open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding public and bank holidays.
