Management Accounting Research Group (MARG) conferences

There are two MARG conferences - a one day event at LSE concerned with evaluating the latest trends in management accounting, and a one-and-a-half day event held at, and organised by, Aston Business School, Birmingham, which concentrates on discussing the research agenda in management accounting.

The financial support of the ICAEW and CIMA charitable trusts are gratefully acknowledged. Further funding is also provided by the Department of
Accounting at LSE.

Over the years, MARG has critically examined key innovations in management accounting, including:

  • Japanese management accounting;
  • business re-engineering;
  • activity-based costing;
  • strategic management accounting;
  • economic value-added approaches;
  • accounting and 'e' business; and
  • performance measurement and incentives.

Past MARG conference distinguished speakers have included Shanon Anderson, Robin Cooper, Larry Gordon, Anthony Hopwood, Charles Horngren, David Larcker, Jan Mouritsen, Bob Scapens, John Shank, Mike Shields, Shyam Sunder and Wim Van der Stede among others.

The 2008 Conference was held on 17 April 2008. The plenary speaker was Professor Wai Fong Chua.

The Centre for Business Performance manages all ICAEW grant applications.
