Learning support
At LSE, your main support for academic guidance is your personal tutor (for undergraduates) or supervisor (postgraduates). Further support is provided by the Teaching and Learning Centre, in four forms:
Open sessions
All students are welcome. These sessions are particularly useful for first year undergraduates and postgraduates who have not studied in the UK before. See the Learning World pages on Moodle for details.
Workshop/ practical sessions
These sessions involve practical exercises and plenty of opportunity for discussion. See the Learning World pages on Moodle for details.
Study support for students
These sessions are with Lynne Roberts, who provides confidential one-to-one talks and sympathetic help on anything to do with your studies or (later) exams or dissertation. To book a 45-minute slot call in to Room U600 or email: studentsupport@lse.ac.uk. See the Learning World pages on Moodle for details
Study support for students studying quantitative subjects
One-to-one consultations with Tony Whelan. The one-to-one advice requires pre-booking. Email: studentsupport@lse.ac.uk or call in to Room U600. See the Learning World pages on Moodle for details.
Since October 2007, writer Marina Benjamin has been a part of the TLC as the school's first Royal Literary Fund Fellow. She offers students one-to-one tutorials on all aspects of academic writing, from planning essay content and scope, making the most of your research, structuring arguments, and writing essays and dissertations in a clear, reader-friendly way. Good writing is born of clear thinking, so if you need help sorting out what you think about a particular subject, and then finding the best possible form in which to express your thoughts, you stand to benefit from these tutorials.
Marina is available on Thursdays and Fridays during term time. She'll be seeing students in 45 minute slots between 10.30-12.45 and between 2.00pm-4.15pm See the Learning World pages on Moodle for details. For all appointments please call 0207 852 3627 or email studentsupport@lse.ac.uk .
