Michaelmas term 2007

Wine Tasting

We will be holding a (tutored) wine tasting in the SCR on Wednesday 28 November 2007 at 5.30pm. Wines will be provided by Planet of the Grapes. The event will be ticketed and is open to all SCR members and their guests. More details have been emailed to SCR members.

Christmas lunch in the SDR

The Christmas lunch will be on Tuesday 11 December 2007. To reserve a table please ring the SDR, Ext 7821 and then complete a catering order form if you wish to have vouchers.

Periodicals auction

The reversionary interest in the publications bought for the Senior Common Room is auctioned annually, during the Michaelmas term, and the proceeds used to supplement SCR funds. We deliver papers and periodicals so bought to the successful bidder when the new issue arrives, i.e. we send newspapers daily and periodicals weekly or monthly.

If the reserve price is not met, we'll sell the reversionary rights to the highest bidder, but we may ask the annual general meeting (AGM) to cancel subscriptions at the end of the year. Members are asked to treat SCR literature with care so that those who buy can receive their purchase in a reasonable state.

This year's periodical auction is now open online. It will close at 5pm on 14 December 2007.

Summer term 2008

Senior Common Room Annual Dinner

This will be on Wednesday 21 May 2008. This is a dinner to which all members of the Senior Common Room (SCR) and their guests are invited. This usually takes place early in the Summer term. Previous guests of honour and after-dinner speakers have included Cherie Booth QC, Alan Budd, Terry Eagleton, Dame Rosalyn Higgins, Lord Hoffman, Ken Loach, Ken McDonald, Jon Snow and Mark Tully. All members of the SCR are alerted by email when tickets become available for this event.

Strawberry Tea

This will be on Wednesday 18 June 2008. The Strawberry Tea is an opportunity for SCR members to invite their LSE friends and colleagues to join them, and relax and chat over tea, sandwiches, cakes and, of course, strawberries. Traditionally it is also the occasion for saying farewell to members of the SCR who are retiring from the School in the next year. This event is held towards the end of the Summer term (see the Calendar of Events for exact dates). All members of the SCR are alerted by email when tickets become available for this event.

New Staff Reception

The New Staff Welcome Reception (which is currently organised by LSE Teaching and Learning) is held annually in September to welcome staff new to the School. In 2007 this was on Tuesday 11 September.
