What is the CEMS?

The CEMS is a consortium of seventeen of Europe's most highly regarded management schools, of which the LSE is one, who have joined together to offer a common European degree - the CEMS Master. The CEMS is supported by about fifty international corporate partners. The association aims to foster cooperation within the European academic community and to enhance involvement within the business world.

In order to be selected for the CEMS Programme at LSE you need to be fully motivated by the idea of working hard to achieve the goals required to fulfill the requirements of both the MSc Management degree and the CEMS MIM. Since you will be working on two degrees there will be some extra work required.

The extra components are:

  • Participation in a blocked seminar prior to the start of term
  • An internship, minimum of 10 weeks. The internship can be done either before or after your start the MSc Management degree (CEMS route).
  • Participation in skills seminars equivalent to 4 full days. These can be 2 x 2 days seminars or a series of one day or half day seminars which can either be taken at home or abroad. We offer 2 skills seminars at LSE which together fulfill this requirement. One of them, Presentation Skills is a compulsory course for all LSE CEMS students.
  • Passing language exams in your first and second language unless and exemption applies. If English is not your mother tongue you will be exempt from being examined in this subject because your degree being taught in English.

The first term of your MSc/CEMS route will be spent at LSE where you will be joined by visiting CEMS students from the other CEMS schools across Europe.

During your term you will take 4 half unit courses, 3 of which will be taken from a choice of 6 courses taught in the Management Department. A one-half unit course will be optional, however, please note the choice will be somewhat limited.

You will spend your term abroad during the Lent/'Summer term. Dates vary from school to school. Whilst abroad you will take 2 taught courses (again the choice will be limited) and will be required to do a business project working in a team with other students. The business project will be allocated by the hosting institution.

After completion of your term abroad you will be required to submit at 10,000-word dissertation for the MSc Management degree. You will also need to complete an internship, if you have not already done so. Language exams can be taken in May and September each year and may be taken at any CEMS school.
