The School's strategy in India is to renew and develop our strong links with Indian academic institutions, government and corporate bodies to foster knowledge exchange and capacity building as well as contribute to the debate on broader policy issues.

Sir Nicholas Stern rejoined LSE in June 2007 as the first holder of the IG Patel Chair, heading the new India Observatory within the Asia Research Centre, which had been announced at the Asia Forum in New Delhi in December 2006. The India Observatory will play a vital role in sustaining and developing LSE's long standing partnership with India. Please click here for more information.
The Jamsetji Tata Trust has pledged £1.8 million to LSE to support research collaboration between LSE and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in India (TISS). More
LSE Asia Forum
LSE held its third LSE Asia Forum in New Delhi, India, on 7 December 2006. The event was dedicated to Dr IG Patel, ninth director of LSE between1984 and 1990, and former governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Keynote speakers were India's prime minister Manmohan Singh and LSE professors Danny Quah, Fred Halliday and Razeen Sally. An LSE chair was announced, named in honour of Dr Patel and the setting up of an India Observatory, both supported by the Reserve Bank of India and State Bank of India.
