Professor Jude Howell
Jude Howell is the Director of the Centre for Civil Society, taking up her post in October 2003, and is also Director of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)'s Non-Governmental Public Action Research Programme.
Jude was formerly Team Leader of the Governance Research Team at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex. Her main research interests include civil society and governance, civil society/state relations, politics of policy-making, politics of international development policy and practice, anti-poverty policy, gender and political participation. Her country experience includes China, India, Mozambique and Central Asia.
Jude is also advisor on Central Asia Advisory Group to INTRAC, a UK international NGO. She has provided advice to range of UK and international development agencies including UNIDO, EU, Save the Children Fund, NEAD, ILO, UNDP and DFID.
