The China in Comparative Perspective Network (CCPN) is initiated by scholars from the Asia Research Centre and the Department of Anthropology. The Network is affiliated to the Department of Anthropology but not confined to anthropologists. The CCPN engages nearly two dozen LSE China experts as core members, Academic Advisory Committee members of the CCPN, or Editorial Board members of Journal of China in Comparative Perspective. CCPN covers the following departments and institutions (in alphabetic order): Anthropology, Development Studies, Economic History, Economics, Government, International History, International Relations, Law, Management, Media and Communication, Social Policy, Sociology, Statistics, etc. We are multi-disciplinary and aim to link and pool the expertise of all China studies scholars in the LSE and beyond. See more details please click About us and History.
According to ARC's self-description 'the primary purpose of the Asia Research Centre is to raise the profile of scholarly study of Asia within the School. The centre is interdepartmental and has the particular object of encouraging and coordinating interdisciplinary social science research in Asian studies'.
The anthropology department has a strong international reputation and a long and distinguished history of leadership in the discipline. It was the only anthropology department in the UK to be awarded the top 5*A ranking in the most recent RAE (Research Assessment Exercise). See History for more details for anthropological studies of China.
The China in Comparative Perspective Network (CCPN) aims to become a world-class locus for research on issues or themes relating to China in comparative perspective. It is based at the LSE, but brings together London based experts on China seeking comparative and inter-disciplinary approaches to China related topics.
The CCPN is directed by Professor Stephan Feuchtwang, coordinated by Dr Xiangqun Chang and steered by its Academic Advisory Committee which consists of groups of scholars based at LSE, in London, UK, China, Asia, Europe, USA and Australia (See Academic Advisory Committee - TBC).
