Business History of Britain’s Railways, 1997-2005

The Strategic Rail Authority commissioned the Business History Unit to prepare a business history of Britain's Railways, 1997-2005, with particular reference to the policy, structure, governance and fortunes of the industry. The history includes financial and economic analyses of railway performance. The assignment has been undertaken by Terry Gourvish.

Overseen by an Independent Editorial Advisory Board chaired by Stephen Glaister of Imperial College, the project was completed on schedule. The book, entitled Britain's Railways 1997-2005: Labour's Strategic Experiment, is published by Oxford University Press.
